Charism
The Congregation of the Sisters of the Child Jesus founded by Bishop Etienne Larue, M. Afr., when he accepted the desire of young girl, Therese Ngosa, who felt moved by the Holy Spirit to become a ‘priest’. Bishop Larue started a group of Sisters in Chilubula which was then seat of the Bishop and he called the Congregation; ‘the Congregation of the Servants of the Child Jesus.’, later to be changed to Sisters of the Child Jesus.
We are a community of religious sisters called by God to live together. We live a life in communion with Him in a relationship that is the one of Jesus Christ to His "Abba" (Father). We follow Jesus in His total gift (consecration) of Himself to His Father. We feel called to a life of chastity, obedience and poverty and we dedicate ourselves to the salvation of our people.
Our Congregation is of Diocesan Right. It is under special care of the Bishops where we live and work (cf. Can. 594). Our Mother house is in the Archdiocese of Kasama, Zambia. Bishop Marcel Daubechies, M. Afr., as Bishop of Kasama, granted the decree of erection on the 15th of May 1954. The Sacred Congregation of the Faith granted him this faculty ( prot. No. 1482/54).
The Holy Spirit has given us the charism of Apostolic Service. In the words of our Founder, we are: "to work for the salvation of our own people". Our model is Jesus Christ as the dearly beloved Son of His "Abba", Father.
To bring this salvation to our people, we must be inspired by a Christ-like apostolic zeal. We must feel an urge to go out and proclaim the Good News to the people in ways that promote both their human and spiritual growth.
